KwaZulu-Natal Museum is one of only five national museums in South Africa. Situated in the city of Pietermaritzburg near the landmark City Hall in Jabu Ndlovu Street, the museum occupies a typical Victorian/Edwardian era building going back to 1905. The museum is one of the best in South Africa and is renowned for its unique and diverse collections.

The Tatham Art Gallery is located in Pietermaritzburg and is considered one of South Africa’s top art museums. Housed in a beautiful Victorian building, the gallery was first opened in 1903 and contains an important collection of South African, British, Victorian and French art. Some of the artworks include paintings by Degas, Picasso, Renoir and Matisse.

Msunduzi Museum includes the Voortrekker Church of the Vow, built in 1849, and the former house of Voortrekker leader Andries Pretorius, built in 1842. Since the 1990’s, the Msunduzi Museum in Pietermaritzburg an agency of the National Department of Arts and Culture has been transformed from a historically single-themed museum to one that depicts the heritage of different cultural groups of KwaZulu-Natal.

Comrades Marathon House– The Comrades Marathon is an ultramarathon of approximately 89 km (approx. 56 miles) which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It is the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon race.

The Baynesfield Estate Museum is made up of a few different sites, giving you a look at the life of Yorkshire born Joseph Bayne who was a Byrne Settler and who founded the Baynesfield Estate museum. During his life as an enthusiastic and hard working agriculturist, he accumulated many farms now known as Baynesfield Esate.
